Ane Barstad Solvang (b. 1991) works artistically and literarily with various mediums such as painting, poetry, text, and performance. Her artistic practice revolves around the exploration of the modern and traditional female role in the canon. Thematically, her work spans between expectations of women, health, household chores, and economics. The practice is interdisciplinary, but the projects share commonalities in content. Barstad Solvang has primarily addressed fertility, childbirth, friendship and romantic relationships, as well as loneliness and illness in our digital age. More recently, she has been preoccupied with depicting freedom, or detachment from these themes, through a focus on nature and an automatic, feminine written language. Barstad Solvang works within a self-biographical, diary-like tradition that demystifies women, rather than objectifying them.
Ane, together with Tonje Paus, held an exhibition at SKOG called “All you want". More information about the exhibition can be found here.
