Currently at SKOG: Terrain of whispers - Hanna Roloff & Live Skaar Skogesal

We are delighted to present a selection of Skogesal’s works in our latest duo exhibition alongside Hanna Roloff. «Hører du skogen hviske» features four of her many tapestry pieces, exploring our relationship with the forest. The works evoke a sense of mysticism while gently confronting the pace of modern life. At the same time, they remain playful and inviting, with vibrant colour palettes, glittering yarn, and delicate embellishments such as pearls.

Our gallery guests seem to be just as fascinated by her work as we are.

Traditional handcraft meets a vibrant modern touch

Weaving is one of the oldest forms of textile production, with roots stretching back thousands of years across cultures worldwide. Traditionally associated with utility and craftsmanship, it has also long been a medium for storytelling, symbolism, and artistic expression. In Skogesal’s work, this rich heritage is reimagined through a contemporary lens—where traditional techniques meet bold colours, tactile experimentation, and a distinctly modern sensibility.

Skogesal brings with her a close connection to nature—something that resonates strongly throughout her practice. Her works often reflect a deep sensitivity to the atmospheres of the forest, translated into intricate woven compositions.

The artist weaves using plant-dyed and hand-dyed yarns. Committed to sustainability, she also incorporates reclaimed and reusable fibers into her practice—embracing the creative possibilities they offer, from subtle textures to unexpected materials like glittering nylon and other high contrast threads.
