I See What I Saw - Anders Hald

Anders Hald’s work is a virtuoso and contemporary three dimensional storytelling. It is situated in a visual balance between abstraction and figuration, where the artist seeks to portray observations from near and far, that reflects on human behavior in relation to himself and his surroundings. They are dramatic, and full of joy, they are a celebration to life.

Hald’s work rely on a personal method of an almost introverted intuition paired with a hefty and radical bursts of action. It is rough and energetic, he leaves marks of his fingers and various tools, making the presence of him as a maker clear. Purposely he leaves the clay surface flawed and honest to his method, some marks are enhanced by a layers of glaze, others covered by it. Order and chaos are omnipresent and desired, like our minds are complicated and beautiful.

Important references are classical sculptures and architectural elements: a frieze, a bust or bas-relief. Others are music, and bits of lyrics often spark the title and content to a work. Hald reshapes our idea of the human condition and depict stories from his own life, archetypes or mythology: sampling past and present, who we were, who we are and who we will become.
“I see my work as a sculptural visualization of a journal. A sense of exploration and navigation which complexity continues to evolve in parallel with my own personal life. From this creative stand point multiple subcategories emerges.”, Hald says.

I See What I Saw, is the artist’s first solo-exhibition in Norway.

On show are a variation of work; from large scale ceramic bas-reliefs, made at Tommerup Ceramic Workcenter in Denmark, recent drawings, sculptures and bas-reliefs in ceramic.
About the artist: Anders Hald (1991, Randers, Denmark) lives, works and studies in Oslo. In 2020 he finished his BA in Medium and Material Based Art, at Oslo National Academy of the Arts and is currently completing a MA in the same education.
From 2021 to 2023 he was represented at Galerie Moderne Silkeborg and is now represented at Jacob Bjørn Gallery in Aarhus, Denmark. In 2021 he was invited as artist in residency at The Art Residency in Pietrasanta, Italy. The residency was later published into a book that is released at the opening of the exhibition I See What I Saw. In 2024 he is assigned to create his first public sculpture in Kalundborg, Denmark. Since 2020, he has been exhibiting nationally and internationally at galleries, art fairs, public and private institutions.
