Mikael Øye Hegnar
Hegnar studied at Einar Granum School Kunstfagskole and holds a BA from Kunsthøyskolen in Oslo and an MA from Kunstakademiet at Kunsthøyskolen in Oslo.
Mikael Øye Hegnar has worked for over sixteen years with a diverse range of materials, including charcoal, textile dyes, eggtempered oil paintings, fresco techniques and wax.
His artistic practice is characterized by a continuous exploration techniques, combining printmaking, painting and drawing in works that balance structure and chance.

Hegnar enjoys long processes, dedicating significant time to exploring materials and the properties that he can give them.
His work is abstract and marked by a sense of freedom, unconstrained by time. Flexibility and freedom—for both himself and his viewers is a central value in Hegnar’s practice.

A key part of Hegnar’s practice lies in his meticulous attention to textures, pigments, backgrounds, frames, and everything that surrounds and influences his work.
His pieces have been exhibited nationally and internationally and are included in collections such as the Oslo Municipal Art Collection and Norges Bank.
